Wedding trend 2021: “micro marriage” or marriage in very small groups, instructions: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Spring often marks the start of the wedding season, but the health crisis has upset the plans of many couples. The government has banned large family and friendly gatherings in order to reduce the spread of the virus on French territory. However, it is still possible to organize religious and civil weddings, but restrictions must be put in place to protect the bride and groom and their guests.

Because of health rules and confinements, many couples have therefore decided to postpone or cancel their marriage. The number of civil and religious unions fell by 34.4% in 2020 according to the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee). But some lovers have decided to maintain their union by organizing a wedding in a smaller committee.

How does a micro wedding take place?

For several years, the trend of “micro marriage” or “micro wedding” has been in vogue among couples who wish to celebrate their love with more privacy. In 2016, a study by Emory University (United States) had observed the link between the expenses incurred for a marital union and the longevity of a marriage. According to the results, couples who chose a micro wedding lasted longer than those who organized a large ceremony.

The micro marriage has quite interesting advantages for the bride and groom. First asset: the guest list. In a small meeting, lovers can choose to invite only their close family and close friends. For example, they can provide 20 to 50 people, but it is possible to further reduce the number of guests so that they get the most out of their loved ones. During the party, the bride and groom can spend time with their parents, brothers, sisters or friends, which is not an easy task during a large wedding bringing together 200 or even 300 people.

Budget, menu, wedding dress… What are the advantages of micro wedding?

The option of a micro-wedding is also great for couples who are on a budget or want to save for their honeymoon. Thanks to the reduced number of guests, the couple can consider renting a smaller venue. Lovers can for example choose a reception room in a hotel to welcome their guests and celebrate their union.

Some lovebirds can also organize their wedding in their house or garden. If the weather is nice, the wedding meal can take place outside. They can set up large tables and decorate them to their liking. For the evening, they can provide pretty light garlands or lanterns to light up the garden and provide it with a warm atmosphere.

The wedding dress, the caterer, the place, the place of the guests at the table… A great wedding ceremony requires a great deal of preparation. This event can cause stress for the bride and groom who spend many months preparing for it. A micro marriage makes it possible to reduce anxieties. Thanks to the small number of guests, the workload is greatly reduced for the couple. Regarding the meal, the couple can call on a caterer to prepare a buffet or a menu. If lovers enjoy cooking, they may decide to cook the meal themselves, as quantities are limited.

Unlike a traditional wedding, the wedding dress or the suit is not required for a micro wedding. The bride-to-be can choose a colorful dress, a jumpsuit or an elegant ensemble. The groom can also opt for a small, light shirt for D-Day.

A micro wedding does not prevent you from indulging in small pleasures. In particular, you can use a wedding-planeu (se) to organize the ceremony and the wedding party. You can also hire a photographer to immortalize this beautiful day.

Covid-19: are civil and religious unions allowed in confined departments?

For the moment, no decree has been published concerning a possible ban on marriages in confined areas. It is therefore still possible to celebrate weddings despite the application of hybrid confinement in 19 French departments. Sure BFMTV, Camille Chaize, the spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior had confirmed that “marriages are part of the derogatory grounds, as for example baptisms or even funerals. ”

Civil marriages are limited to six people. The guest limit however depends on the size of the rooms and whether social distancing can be respected in these places. For example, the town hall of the 19th arrondissement of Paris can accommodate 30 people (bride and groom and witnesses included) for wedding ceremonies.

As of December 3, 2020, only six people are allowed to attend religious unions. “Services in places of worship are permitted provided that two seats are left free between each person or family entity, as well as every other row occupied “, had specified Jean Castex during a speech.
