Wedding with children: This is how you really involve kids

The wedding day is a very special day in life, where even the little guests should not miss out. 8 tips for a wedding with children.

The wedding is a very special day in a relationship – and the need for a lot of preparation and often enough also good nerves … Just like everything at a wedding is a matter of taste, couples with children also have it very individual at their own wedding: some wish a wedding without the children, others want to have them with them.

In the latter case, they should not only be involved on this special day, but should be able to enjoy it as much as the adults. With the following tips it works!

Involve children in the wedding preparations

Ideally, the children are involved in the preparations and not just on the wedding day. You can help with many things and also have a say, e.g. B. how they imagine the children's table and tinker or paint something for it. If there is no children's table, you can make something for the bridal table.

  • Trying on the wedding attire is as exciting for the children as it is for the newlyweds – when will they ever see their parents in such beautiful clothes ?!
  • If the child is old enough, they can choose the clothes for the wedding day themselves
  • If the children get their own little bouquet, they could choose their favorite flowers
  • Exploring the wedding location can also be exciting: Where will mom and dad be sitting? Where should the play corner go and what games or entertainment do they want?
  • Strawberry ice cream or chocolate cake? Let the kids choose the dessert or a layer of the wedding cake!

Involve in the wedding ceremony

There are a variety of ways to involve the children in the wedding ceremony. The classics are Flower children or ring bearers. If a toddler is to take part in the ceremony, they can sit on a parent's lap during the wedding ceremony and be close at hand.

A beautiful gesture that includes a child in the wedding ceremony is a symbolic gift for the offspring, which not only strengthens the marriage, but also the family bond. How about:

  • Personalized soft toy
  • Personalized bracelet
  • For larger children e.g. B. an engraved watch, cufflinks or a chain with a pendant.

Clarify childcare

So that the bride and groom can enjoy the marriage and the entire day, looking after their own and also the invited children is the best choice! This can be a family member, acquaintances or professional childcare. But you should be clear not to get everything from the wedding and the celebration. It may make sense to organize several caregivers to take turns.

And: Talk to your kids about it beforehandto understand why their parents can't be there for them 24/7 that day.

Suitable location

An outdoor wedding, wedding on the beach, at a castle or in a lighthouse is a dream for many couples. If you choose such a special location, it should be ensured that especially small children do not leave themselves unattended z. B. stop by the water. Babies and small children who still need an afternoon nap should need a way to sleep in peace in the location or another place to sleep nearby. It should also be clarified in advance who will take care of their own children in the evening and put them to bed while the other guests are still dancing and partying.

Plan a children's table

Children are particularly happy about a nice age-appropriate gift! These can be:

  • Crayons
  • Yoyo
  • Glow sticks
  • Play figures (not for small children)
  • Soap bubbles
  • little puzzle
  • Puzzle books
  • Sweets

Depending on the age of the children, it may make sense to forego fine porcelain and instead serve up children's dishes. Young children are better off near their parents or other caregivers.

4 ideas for child employment

Celebrating with adults is often boring for children. With several children or a suitable activity, the little ones also have a lot of fun on this day.

1st play corner

A small playground is ideal – but not a must. The little ones will definitely enjoy a handicraft corner, painting supplies or board games suitable for children! If the little ones need a break, children's books to dive in and retreat are a good idea.

2. Handicraft fun

Small projects that the children do together with an adult also ensure employment. This could be someone from the family, but they would then have to agree not to fully experience part of the wedding reception. Or the bridal couple hires a children's entertainer / care. This could be on the crafting agenda:

3. Face painting

Most children love to dress up and put on make-up accordingly. Even without a costume, the little ones enjoy imaginative figures. They are usually just as enthusiastic about a clown, magician or balloon artist as entertainment!

4. Movement

Sitting during the wedding, eating and in between – a lot of sitting can be exhausting for the little ones. Schedule a few movement games. How about a little treasure hunt on the site or with many small wedding guests "trip to Jerusalem" ?!

Wedding with baby – a checklist

A baby must certainly be cared for differently than smaller and larger children. The support should also be discussed well in advance. Remember to have a backup supervisor behind you, if the actual z. B. fails due to illness!

  • Pack enough diapers and care
  • Change clothes
  • Baby blanket
  • dummy
  • Baby monitor
  • toy
  • If necessary. Baby food and accessories
  • Possibly. Changing mat and travel cot

Tip: If the baby is still breastfeeding, the mother would do well to choose a dress that is as easy as possible to put on and take off.
