Wednesday on Netflix: a more horrifying season 2 without romance? Jenna Ortega reveals the first details

In an interview with Variety, “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega revealed the first details for Season 2 and a big change is expected.

Having become a real phenomenon when it was released, Wednesday is making headlines again as the Emmy Awards approach, a ceremony that rewards the best series of the past year. The show’s star, Jenna Ortega, is already campaigning for the Best Actress award. On this occasion, the actress revealed new details about season 2.

In a meeting made with Elle Fanning for variety, the interpreter of Wednesday Addams reveals a major change for the sequel: more horror and less romance, if not more at all. “[Le développement] is still ongoing, but we’ve decided to delve deeper into the horror. We’re going to drop any romantic intrigue, which is really great”, she rejoices.

She continues: “We’re gonna do something bolder, darker.” Good news for those who regretted that the first season did not go far enough. This decision is, one can imagine, motivated by Jenna Ortega herself, very invested in the writing of her character, which had earned her several criticisms.

It remains to be seen to what extent Netflix will be able to push the slider towards horror. A real challenge for the platform when you know that the series was first thought of as a program for all audiences.

To discover this season 2, it will perhaps be necessary to wait longer than expected. Hollywood is currently hard hit by the writers’ strike, led by the Writers Guild of America union. Filming on Wednesday will not be able to begin until the scripts for the episodes are written.

There is also no information on whether filmmaker Tim Burton will be back behind the camera to box some episodes. The director is currently filming the sequel to Beetlejuice in London with Michael Keaton, Monica Bellucci and… Jenna Ortegawho will play the daughter of the also returning Winona Ryder character.

Wednesday is available on Netflix.
