Wednesday on Netflix: did the heroine have powers in the other versions?

In the series “Wednesday”, available on Netflix, the teenager of the Addams family is endowed with psychic powers. Was this the case in the other adaptations? Explanations.

A real success on Netflix, the Wednesday series reinvents the emblematic character of the Addams family to make it a unique heroine. Gifted to fight, play the cello, practice fencing and carry out investigations like no other, she is also endowed with supernatural powers. In contact with the objects and people around her, she can glimpse moments of the past or the future in visions that give her spasms.

During episode 5, Wednesday reveals that his powers appeared a few months before he arrived at the Nevermore school. Her mother, Morticia, hints that she is also prone to clairvoyant gifts, only that they are positive.

This detail was invented specifically for the series. In previous adaptations, Wednesday Addams is an almost normal young girl, although she can drink poison without suffering the consequences. With this new version, creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar want to offer something totally different.

Wednesday on Netflix: cello, fencing… Did Jenna Ortega need a double?

Making Wednesday a superhuman hero allows them to flesh out the character, make it more complex and exciting. Plus, some members of the Addams Family have always been out of this world.

This is the case of Uncle Fester, who is able to emit electricity. In the sixties series, Morticia’s character, the mother, also manages to create smoke around her. As for the grandmother, she is simply a witch.

The powers of Wednesday allow creators to open up the field of possibilities for the continuation of the story while remaining true to the spirit of the universe.

Wednesday is available on Netflix.
