Wednesday on Netflix: Tim Burton’s series is not at all made for children

With “Wednesday”, director Tim Burton offers his first series. Is this project centered on the teenager of the Addams Family accessible to all ages?

World famous and recognized for his gothic and poetic universe, Tim Burton takes another path with Mercredi by producing his first series. He follows the first steps of the young Addams at the Nevermore Academy, a specialized school for the marginalized. A series of murders will very quickly shake up his return to school.

Wednesday is Netflix’s new production. It is centered on the rebellious teenager from the Addams family, characters from cartoons and adapted into TV series from the sixties. Although they are particularly morbid, the adventures of the Addams family are intended for all spectators, from the youngest to the oldest.

Naturally, Mercredi targets a young audience with its teenage love affairs, its independent and tough heroine. The series mixes many genres popular with budding seriphiles such as fantasy, comedy and action. Nevertheless, the Netflix program is not suitable for children.

  • The fiction follows Wednesday Addams’ investigation as she tries to find the man behind a series of murders. The program allows itself a few small outbreaks of anxiety with attack scenes, sometimes shredded bodies and several pools of blood. Tim Burton’s series obviously does not switch to gore, but often has fun with horrific codes. Sensitive souls refrain.
  • Wednesday’s plot is populated by strange creatures, from mermaids to werewolves, to huge, beady-eyed monsters. Tim Burton is a fan of monsters and it was he who designed the design of the most important of the series. Likely to become a source of nightmares, it is better to avoid them.
  • The Addams Family humor is very dark and not always suitable for younger people. Many of the lines, launched by Mercredi, are full of sarcasm and require real hindsight so as not to be taken too seriously.

Wednesday is available on Netflix.
