“Weinstein invited me to the Ritz, but I only had eyes for the buffet”

Montfermeil, between dog and wolf. A winter rain envelopes this plateau in eastern Paris and its windswept buildings. After the riots of 2005, the State invested massively here, in this territory of Seine-Saint-Denis. Ludivine Sagnier opens the door of the small modern hangar where she has arranged to meet. A table, a few folding chairs, cashew nuts, cherry tomatoes, a pack of beers; on the fridge, stickers (“Essonne Antifas”); and, in the stove’s oven, a few cheese skewers which she has put to heat. When, four years ago, Ladj Ly (Wretched2019), pillar of this collective (with Romain Gavras, Kim Chapiron – whom she married –, Toumani Sangaré or Oxmo Puccino…), creates here, at the Ateliers Médicis, a school to train, each year, a dozen screenwriters and directors, the actress tells her: “At a time when we say there is a lack of representation of minorities on stage, it is not consistent. We also need training for the actors…” Answer : ” You know what ? You will take care of it. »

This is how Ludivine Sagnier finds herself, volunteer and delighted, at the head of a blank page: from 500 to 800 applications each year, twelve students on arrival for a – free – six-month training. “A form of political commitment”, she underlines, uncapping the bottles that are bottled at the neck. On the building, on the street side, there are traces of the former occupant of the premises. “A kibble maker. It was disgusting. Rat droppings everywhere. We cleaned it all up ourselves.”, she says. Upstairs, half a dozen beds can accommodate the poorest. Downstairs, in the kitchen area, we toast to the beauty of the D system, precariousness and collective spirit, which are the raw material of the Kourtrajmé tribe.

Not a victim

Since then, Ludivine Sagnier has been doing the splits between, on the one hand, Montfermeil and, on the other, the castles of Maintenon and Chantilly, where she gives the reply to Michael Douglas, in a series on Benjamin Franklin of which she interprets the good friend. And then, today, the Théâtre de la Ville, in Paris, where on the stage of the Espace Cardin, until November 30, she gives to hear these words of Vanessa Springora: “A father with absent subscribers. A strong taste for reading. A certain sexual precocity. And, above all, an immense need to be watched. All the conditions are now met…” In 2020, in The consent, the writer recounted her affair under the influence, in the 1980s, with the writer Gabriel Matzneff, who had made his love for very young girls his pride and his glory: “At 14, you’re not supposed to be expected by a 50-year-old man after college, breath, alone on stage, Vanessa-Ludivine, to find himself in his bed, his cock in his mouth at snack time… »
