If you want to relax in lockdown and do something good for your body, you have to find relaxation at home. This is how the DIY Spa Day succeeds.

Lockdown, home office, general insecurity – and the cosmetic studios and wellness temples are still closed. Skin, hair, nails and soul need special care, especially in the cold winter months. For a change from the dreary everyday life, there is currently only a cozy spa day in your own four walls. These are the best tips.

Provide the right atmosphere

First of all, you need a cozy outfit and the right environment: for a real spa feeling, it's best to wear a soft bathrobe and comfortable slippers. The key to relaxation is comfort and warmth, whether you find it in the bathroom or bedroom is individual. Pleasant smells, such as through an aroma diffuser or candles, can also help to trigger relaxation in the body.

In order to really get involved in the DIY spa day, it is best to ban all electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops and televisions from the room. In addition, ensure that there is sufficient liquid, for example as soothing herbal teas or water with additives such as lemon wedges, cucumber, mint or ginger. Last but not least: a playlist with relaxation music.

Do something good for your skin

A good start to a spa day at home is a relaxing bath. It is important to design the tub and its contents in such a way that you feel comfortable – whether it is a bubble bath, oil bath or bath salt. Before getting into the bathtub, you can stimulate the blood circulation in the skin with a dry brush: start at your feet and brush upwards towards your heart.

Once you sit in the tub, you can use the shower head and hot water, for example sprayed on the tiles, to generate additional steam. Then massage a gentle body scrub all over your body to remove dead skin. After showering, top off with a moisturizing body cream.

Don't forget your face: A soothing mask that can work on the skin of the face for a long time while you relax in the tub works wonders. The mask should, however, be tailored to individual needs: healing earth and clay masks for detoxifying the skin; Ingredients like vitamin C, arbutin or niacinamide for a glowing complexion; Aloe Vera and masks containing hyaluronic acid for more moisture. A bath is also the perfect opportunity to take care of your hair with a mask.

Pamper your face with "Face Yoga"

So-called "Face Yoga" has a relaxing effect on the facial muscles, prevents wrinkles and vitalises the skin. Combined with a soothing massage, it's perfect for the DIY spa day. Apply moisturizer, serum, or face oil to cleansed skin and stand in front of a mirror. The face has over 40 muscles that can be used with numerous exercises. Either perform the massage with clean hands or use tools such as jade rollers or gua sha.

Manicures and pedicures for the home

Even if your feet are currently still wrapped in thick woolen socks and winter boots, it is worth taking care of them. To soften the skin slightly, take a ten-minute lukewarm foot bath, or use an exfoliant if necessary. Then use a pumice stone or a corneal rasp to remove any cornifications on the balls of the feet, heels and under the toes. Then use the nail scissors to cut to the base, round off with the nail file and polish.

Using a nail stick, gently push the cuticle down on the hands and feet and cut with nail scissors if necessary to create a larger nail bed. Before you start painting, clean your nails and remove any nail residues. Then color comes into play: Apply a nourishing base coat, then one or two layers of nail polish, finish with a top coat. Finally, massage your hands and feet with a rich cream.
