A symbolic moment. Tuesday April 16, 2024, Laure Manaudou was the second bearer of the Olympic Flame, lit in the morning in Olympia, Greece. “I felt a lot of pride to be there, to be the first French torchbearer. […] I had this feeling a little bit when I had the torch in my hand and said to myself ‘I have world peace in my hand for two minutes’. I tried to enjoy this moment and I hope it can show a little bit of joy and humanity in this somewhat complicated world these days!”she said in the show RTL Good evening, the same day. Obviously, this event has a lot of meaning for Laure Manaudou, who became Olympic swimming champion in Athens in 2004, at the age of only 17. “I am delighted to be here today and to see that these last 20 years have served me at least, at 37, to be able to be aware of how lucky I am”declared the famous swimmer, clearly moved, to our colleagues.

Although her career as a professional swimmer is now behind her, Laure Manaudou will, however, have a role to play in the Paris 2024 Olympicssince she will be – just like her brother Florent, who “dream” also to become flag bearer during the opening ceremony – captain of the 11,000 Olympic Flame relays which will take place in France from May 8. And of course, like any former French athlete, she intends to attend some events: “For the moment, I haven’t made my diary. I know that I also have my children, I will see what disciplines I will go to with them. Maybe horse riding for my older daughter, and supporting my brother of course.” Indeed, Manon, Laure Manaudou’s daughter, is a great fan of equestrian sport, in which she has already won medals. For his part, Florent Manaudou is preparing to compete this year in his very last Olympic Games, at the age of 33. But in addition to horse riding and swimming, Laure Manaudou would also like to attend athletics events, and “full” other sports. “We’re really going to have to get organized!”, finally concluded the wife of singer Jérémy Frérot.
