Apple says it: currently, there is no new 27-inch iMac in the works.

Last week, the firm led by Tim Cook lifted the veil around its new iMac equipped with an M3 processor. Marketed since yesterday from 1,599 euros, Apple’s all-in-one computer is no longer aimed at the most experienced users. This makes do with the entry-level M3 chip and benefits from a 24-inch screen, introduced during the release of the 2021 iMac.

Should we hope for the big return of the 27-inch iMac in the future? Gentlemen and ladies, your hopes of finding that good old screen will now be put to rest once and for all.

Apple has no plans to release a new 27-inch iMac

Apple’s flagship model for several years, the 27-inch iMac accompanied the good years of the Apple brand. Presented as an all-in-one computer for the general public, the device allowed many types of uses, both in terms of editing, navigation and office automation.

Beyond the screen size, the 27-inch iMac offered a wide array of ports, including an SD card slot. For comparison, the iMac released two years ago only has four USB-C ports on the back, knowing that the entry-level model only includes two.

If, for all these reasons, you were hoping for a return of the 27-inch model of the iMac, Apple has just entrusted the teams of The Verge that she had no plans about it. Starlayne Meza, Apple’s public relations representative, therefore encourages people who have been waiting for the arrival of a larger iMac to redirect themselves now to the Studio Display, and to associate a Mac Studio or a Mac Mini with it.

A 32-inch iMac by 2025?

If the Cupertino company therefore confirms that it will no longer manufacture a 27-inch iMac, there is nothing to indicate, however, that it will not offer an even larger screen in the future. For several years now, various analysts in the industry, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, have agreed that Apple is working on a 32-inch iMac with a mini-LED screen.

According to information recently shared by Kuo, this high-end model would benefit from thinner edges and would be planned for the year 2025. Other rumors in the corridor also suggest that it could, in reality, be of a brand new Mac Pro, a model abandoned by Apple since March 2021.

Apple iMac (2021)

  • A very elegant and modern design
  • M1 processor performance
  • Finally a webcam worthy of the name

The 2021 iMac gives a big boost to Apple’s desktop computer range. Prettier and more powerful too, it is the ideal all-in-one for families and sufficiently efficient for most teleworking employees. It’s a shame that the device is so expensive, even in its simplest configuration.
