Weselsky escalates collective bargaining dispute: Railway union GDL announces new strike from Thursday

Weselsky escalates collective bargaining dispute
The GDL railway union announces a new strike from Thursday

The German Train Drivers’ Union (GDL) has announced further strikes at Deutsche Bahn. GDL boss Claus Weselsky said in Berlin that collective bargaining with the railways had failed. This means “that further industrial action will follow”. The strike should last 35 hours and begin in passenger traffic on Thursday at 2 a.m., said Weselsky. After that there will be further strikes without announcements as so-called wave strikes.

The union boss accused the railway board of being “irreducable”. “The fact that he can continue to act like this is also the fault of politicians and the Minister of Transport,” said Weselsky. Bahn and GDL had previously negotiated for weeks but had not come to any conclusion.
