(Reuters) – Five Palestinians were killed on Monday in an Israeli strike on the Nour Shams refugee camp near the West Bank city of Tulkarem, the Palestinian health ministry said in a statement.
Four loud explosions were heard after an Israeli drone targeted a house in the camp, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
The Israeli military said its jets struck a militant operations center in the camp and that more details would follow.
Clashes in the occupied West Bank have escalated sharply since the war began on October 7, and Israeli forces have stepped up operations against armed groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Thousands of Palestinians have been arrested and at least 637 have been killed in the West Bank, including many armed fighters, but also stone-throwing youths and civilians.
At least 30 Israelis – civilians and soldiers – were killed by Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank during the same period, according to Israeli data.
