Five people were killed in an attack in a shopping center in the Australian metropolis of Sydney.
The alleged perpetrator was shot and also died, the police responsible said at a press conference.
The attack occurred Saturday at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center, authorities said.

The Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center was closed and Australian police urged people to avoid the area.
Emergency services were called to the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney’s east at around 3.40pm (local time). Paramedics treated patients at the scene.
Several social media posts showed crowds outside the mall. Eyewitnesses reported that panic ensued as people tried to run for safety.
