We know the tumultuous relationships that David Hallyday has with his stepmother, Laeticia, but what about those he has with his stepfather Tony Scotti, the husband of his mother Sylvie Vartan? The battle between Johnny Hallyday’s children and the singer’s wife made headlines in 2017. David and his sister, actress Laura Smet, felt aggrieved by the legacy left by their father, compared to Laeticia.
Since his last album in 2020, we had heard little from David Hallyday, except for an Instagram post stating “I miss you there”, intended for his fans. But he will soon testify in a new documentary on Canal+ Docs. Co-produced by Paul Belmondo, the film will look back on his career but also his private life and in particular his relationship with his father, and with his stepfather.

Asked by TV 7 Days, the singer explained: “Paul told me that lots of young artists were doing this kind of documentary. I was all the more legitimate to talk about my career… With the idea of leaving a trace for my descendants”.
He then explains his first steps as an artist: “At my beginnings, apart from my family, a lot of people were arguing that i wasn’t good enough for a career”. And he continues on the role played by Tony Scotti, married to his mother since 1984, in his journey: “It is important to pay tribute to the people who have helped you and who love you. From the age of 17, I was writing songs for a publishing house, without thinking of singing one day. Tony encouraged me to do it. Without that, I would have continued in music, but not necessarily by performing on stage”.
As for Sylvie Vartan and her grandmother, he says thatthey “very quickly understood that music was my home, not a passion, but a vocation“.
The documentary will be released on April 3, and his new album, the fifteenth, is scheduled for June 16. It will be called The Happiest of Men. This is the title of a particular song for David Hallyday, which details: “I had written this piece in 2002 for my father who had asked me to compose a new album for him.. A great idea, because blood for blood (released in 1999) allowed us to spend time together. And then, after five titles, I said to myself that it was better to stay on this work reference, between him and me”.
