What are the most visited websites?

As at the beginning of each year, it’s time for rankings and compilations of data to better understand what tomorrow has in store for us. Today, we are looking at web traffic. Visual Capitalist, using data from SimilarWeb, has produced an infographic of the 50 most visited sites in the world.

On the podium, we find without great surprise the number one search engine, the largest video streaming platform and the main social network. Google is thus in the lead with an estimated monthly traffic of 85.1 billion, followed by YouTube and its 33 billion, then Facebook at 17.8 billion. Twitter and Instagram follow the Social Network with just over 6 billion web traffic per month.

Looking more closely, one can wonder about the classification of certain names. TikTok only reaching a “young” audience mainly on its mobile application, it only represents 1.88 billion and ranks 18th in the ranking. This is simply because the data compiled here only pertains to websites, not apps.

The distribution of global web traffic is nothing more than an inverted pyramid. Most Internet users gravitate around the main platforms, always using the same online services: search, social networks… and some adult content. Because yes, it is the fifth sector with the most traffic; ahead of development software, streaming sites, encyclopedias, e-commerce, emails and gaming.
