Do you often spend hours looking for the perfect program for a couch party? We have decided to make it easier for you, by selecting a film and a series to watch every day, on SVOD platforms. And we start with a supercharged action film and a chilling political series, to start the week in style, this Monday, February 6, 2023.

From Netflix to Prime Video via Canal+, OCS or Apple TV+, there are so many SVOD platforms that you end up not knowing where to turn. To guide you on this adventure to your sofa and your best screen, Numerama has decided to select a film and a series for you to discover on the platforms for each day of the week.

For our first recommendations, we invite you to take the fastest train in the world in the company of Brad Pitt with Bullet Train on Canal+ or to fuel your anger against the system with The Handmaid’s Tale on Prime Video. Just to end this Monday, February 6, 2023 in style.

The film Bullet Train on Canal+, a concentrate of action, humor and originality

Take a classic action blockbuster, add a healthy dose of Coen brothers parody (Fargo, The Big Lebowski), a Tarantino-style drop of hemoglobin (Kill Bill) and a completely offbeat performance by Brad Pitt. Shake well and drop this explosive cocktail into a speeding train. Well done, you got one of our favorite movies of 2022: Bullet Train.

Now available on Canal+, this comic thriller follows the story of Coccinelle (Brad Pitt), an agent tasked with stealing a briefcase full of cash from a Japanese train. But to accomplish his mission, this unlucky hitman will have to face many formidable opponents, hidden among the passengers… To give a boost to your gloomy Monday evening, Bullet Train is the ideal action film: without the fuss or downtime, loaded with hilarious lines and endowed with a mind-blowing cast, by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (kick ass) to Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) and even Ryan Reynolds (Dead Pool). Come on, last call for the departure of the most nervous but recreational train of the moment.

Series The Handmaid’s Tale on Prime Video, a creepy feminist dystopia

We know it : The Handmaid’s Tale (or the Scarlet Servant) it’s nothing new. In 2017, the series adapted from the novel by Margaret Atwood thus upset the small screen, in line with the #MeToo movement and the election of Donald Trump. In this dystopia, women have been divided into three categories: the Marthas (servants) the Wives (married to the Commanders of Gilead, a totalitarian society) and the Servants, who serve only for reproduction and are raped every month for continue to populate Gilead.

If we recommend this series precisely today, it is because the five-season fiction will leave the Prime Video catalog as of February 15, 2023. It is already too late for a binge-watching full (though), but if you’ve always wanted to discover The Handmaid’s Tale, it’s now or never. And anyway, the dystopia has largely lost in quality over the episodes, becoming a reflection of itself, even a story in contradiction with its feminist ambitions. So you won’t miss anything by watching only the masterful first season. And if you really want some more close-ups of Elizabeth Moss’ pissed off face (madmen) after February 15, The Handmaid’s Tale remains available on OCS.
