The big news of the week was undoubtedly the announcement of the proposed takeover of Activision-Blizzard-King by Microsoft this Tuesday. A takeover project for 68.7 billion dollars which should deeply mark the industry and which promises to be one of the highest takeovers in the entertainment industry.
If the takeover will not be recorded before June 2023, the time for the cogs to be put in place and for the various competition authorities to give their potential agreement, we now know a little more about the conditions of this acquisition and its consequences. We learned in particular that Bobby Kotick, current CEO of Activision, will remain in place until the takeover, but should leave his post once Microsoft Gaming is at the head of the publisher. Moreover, if some could fear the stranglehold of Microsoft on Activision games, Sony in the first place, it seems that the objective of the firm is not to make all Activision-Blizzard games exclusive to the Xbox.
Phil Spencer was clear on this, saying that Call of Duty games should remain cross-platform. However, he does not reject the idea of future Activision-Blizzard games that would be available only on PC and Xbox.
