What Does This Deleted Scene From Deadpool & Wolverine Mean?

[ad_1]

Ryan Reynolds shared a deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine. She’s tied to a character who should have had his own movie in the X-Men universe.

Deadpool & Wolverinea real box office hit worldwide ($1.2 billion), mixes several cinematic universes. Thanks to the concept of the multiverse, characters that we met in the cinema several years ago can now pop into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is the case, for example, of mutants, whose rights formerly belonged to Fox (bought by Disney).

This also allows the writers to Deadpool & Wolverine to multiply the unexpected cameos — knowing that Marvel and Disney gave several false leads before the theatrical release. One of them is making headlines again today, thanks to a post by Ryan Reynolds on his Instagram account on August 27, 2024. The actor, who plays Deadpool, reveals a deleted scene. It could offer a nice revenge for a long-cursed project.

Warning, the rest of this article contains minor spoilers about Deadpool & Wolverine.

Here is a deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine

During their trip to the Vortex, considered a dumping ground of the MCU, Deadpool and Wolverine come across a hero who speaks elegantly and fights with cards. His name? Gambit, played by Channing Tatum. This character has already appeared in a Wolverine film, but in the guise of Taylor Kitsch. This is not at all the same Gambit.

In case you didn’t know, 20th Century Fox had a project for an adaptation centered on Gambit, a mutant particularly beloved by fans. Channing Tatum was the lead (alongside Léa Seydoux). However, the film never made it past the pre-production stage, much to the chagrin of the actor who was involved as never before (he even wanted to direct it, which Fox refused). When Gambit got canceled I was so traumatized. I couldn’t watch anything Marvel anymore. I love that character. It was so sad “, he confided to Variety in 2022. He worked on it for four years, alongside producer Reid Carolin.

Deadpool & Wolverine allows him to realize his dream, since it shows that he is cut out for the costume. The deleted scene, also visible on a screen in the post-credits sequence, shows him alive after the immense final battle that took place in the Vortex against Cassandra Nova’s army (there were doubts about his status). He is about to go through a portal to escape – we see a reflection in his eyes and he lets out his best smile of satisfaction. It is difficult not to see this as a teaser for a possible appearance later, in another film (or a series). In any case, Disney and Marvel are opening the door and giving themselves the opportunity to say yes to Channing Tatum.
