What happens to restaurants in the restaurant war?

Season 15 of Top chef opened on Wednesday March 13, 2024. Viewers were then able to discover the 3 jurors of the orange brigade: Hélène Darroze who became one of the emblematic figures of the program, Stépanie Le Quellec who won season 2 of the show in 2011 and Dominique Crenn, the only chef to be able to display three stars in the USA. On the other side, we find an all-male brigade composed of the essential Philippe Etchebest, best worker in France, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel who both have three stars.

But that’s not all : there is also a hidden brigade which can be followed in the second part of the evening. It is managed by chef Pierre Gagnaire. We can also find the finalist of season 14, Danny Khezzar who will come to take care of a test in the March 20 episode. In addition, over the course of the episodes, the candidates will have to give everything to pass the various tests and not be eliminated. In the first episode, two cooks have already had to bow out: Inès Trontin and Thibault Marchand. There are therefore still 12 participants still in the running. They will then have to continue to compete in several events including the famous restaurant war.

What happens to the restaurants in the Top Chef restaurant war?

This is one of the legendary events of the program: the restaurant war is always eagerly awaited by fans. During this test, candidates have the chance to be able to create their own gourmet restaurant entirely in just 48 hours. In pairs, they prepare the dishes in addition to choosing all the decoration of the place. Having a very specific concept is a real plus.

To do this, they go to real restaurants, all close to each other to facilitate filming. But what then happens to these establishments which have completely changed their appearance? It is the manager who chooses. He can decide to keep the decoration apart from the dishes which are collected by production or to ask that a cleaning team come and change everything again. During this event, restaurants can no longer serve for three days. Thus, managers receive financial compensation from production.

The other events planned for season 15 of Top Chef

Apart from the restaurant war, we will be able to find new emblematic events of Top chef. We will thus find “the black box” but this year she will change location. The candidates will meet in the dome of the large stables of Chantilly where they will cook in front of the best workers in France before going to the famous black box for a second test. There will also be the test “Who can beat the bosses?” where the participants will have to face Stéphanie Le Quellec, Dominique Crenn, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel.

For this anniversary season, the trompe l’oeil will be transformed into “deceive the palace”. Thus, the dishes must resemble a known dish without the main ingredient being present. The cooks will also have to impress chef Jean Imbert by preparing dishes on a train for the test “The Orient Express”. The latter was not chosen at random since it will be the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Finally, a final test may leave its mark on the candidates and the viewers: feast. The candidates will then have to create an entire banquet for 50 guests gathered at the Château de Ferrières in Seine-et-Marne. They should not forget the drinks or the dessert. The latter must be grandiose. This banquet will then be tasted and judged by 50 former candidates of the program. The names have not yet been revealed but fans will definitely recognize several faces!
