After the immense failure Silent Hills, canceled in 2015, Hideo Kojima will finally get his horror game. On the occasion of The Game Awards 2023 ceremony, broadcast on the night of December 7 to 8, the father of Metal Gear took the stage to unveil his new project: OD, published by Microsoft. The appetizer takes the form of a cryptic trailer showing three actors — Sophia Lillis (That), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and Udo Kier (huge filmography) — in close-up.
If we look at the trailer alone, it’s difficult to guess what Hideo Kojima has in mind, beyond his goal of scaring. “ For all the players and all the screamers », displays the video at the end. A few seconds before, we see a door open in the reflection of Sophia Lillis’s eyes, who then lets out a huge cry of fear. It is OD and we don’t know when it comes out.

The person concerned was a little less enigmatic when giving the outlines of ODwhich he describes as “ a game » but, also, like “ a movie “. It plans to use Microsoft’s cloud gaming technologies to provide unprecedented immersion, “ something no one has ever done ” or ” a new form of media “. The teaser is intriguing and it is therefore already a success for Hideo Kojima, who takes great pleasure in shaking up the codes (including those of communication).
The other big surprise OD is due to the fact that it is a collaboration: Jordan Peele, director of the distressing films Get Out, Us And Nope, working on it. He will bring his cinematographic know-how, knowing that he is passionate about video games. We recall that Hideo Kojima was to be associated with Guillermo Del Toro for Silent Hills (the Mexican filmmaker finally appeared in the casting of Death Strandinglike Nicolas Winding Refn).
Hideo Kojima ended his presentation by announcing that OD brings together other great talents who will be revealed later. On stage, he described them as legends to form a team he named the Avengers. We bet there will be John Carpenter, master of terror who spends his time playing video games.
