What is that? A Viennese couple asked themselves this question during their vacation on the idyllic Greek island of Crete when they made a horrifying find (see photo above) on the beach. Marine biologist Daniel Abed-Navandi from the House of the Sea of the “Crown” was able to clarify what the “strange creature” is.
The lifeless creature that was stranded on a beach in Crete on Monday looked pretty scary. A couple from Vienna, who are currently on vacation there, made the find together with some other vacationers. The holiday couple quickly started their own research. At first it was suspected that the animal was a dolphin-like creature that had previously only been sighted in Mexico and Crete – but nobody was sure. In order to clarify, the “crown” finally asked Daniel Abed-Navandi, the deputy director of the House of the Sea Abed-Navandi clear. The Mediterranean moray eel is normally a hidden, nocturnal predator from the moray eel family (Muraenidae). The predatory fish with strong teeth and sharp teeth can cause serious wounds. Some species of moray eels are also poisonous and have been dubbed the “terrors of the sea.” But Abed-Navandi clarified, “They don’t look that scary alive, though.”
