“What scares me for my children is the climate”

“We were children when we didn’t have any. » This sentence, Fabien Marsaud, alias Grand Corps Malade, 45, wrote it at the end of the illustrated children’s book he has just published at the Arènes (Definitively. you can already, 60 pages, 18 euros). Two songs put into images, two songs written for his sons. In the first – Definitively – he addresses the eldest, three months before his birth, in 2010: “I will teach you prudence, you will teach me uncertainty. » He also warns: “I eat poorly and I won’t be able to play ball. But I will find other things to do to make you proud of your daron. » For his second son, born in 2013, he wrote you can alreadyshortly before he turned 3, a song in which he recounts the wonder of discovering what children already know how to do better than their parents: “You can already make fun of me and brag about being the first to really blackmail me.” »

The first time you felt like a father?

It’s very complicated, hyperprogressive, we try to imagine being a dad, but we don’t really know what awaits us. We know that we become a dad at birth, but we don’t understand anything. The first days, the first weeks, you’re not the one with the most connections. Fatherhood does not fall on us. It’s a slower process, a learning process.

Have you ever cried in front of your children?

No. It’s not that I hide, but I don’t have easy tears, I hardly ever cry. It’s not a pride… it’s like that.

Worst thing you’ve said to your kids?

I have big tantrums, but I manage not to say things that I would regret afterwards…

The mania that annoyed you with your parents and that you still reproduce?

As a child I was very athletic and at home I always had a ball, even indoors. It annoyed my mother, who did not understand that I played sports in the house. Me, I did not see what was disturbing that I had a ball in my foot. I didn’t understand why it could be annoying, the sound of the ball bouncing or hitting against the walls, I didn’t know that after a while you only hear that! Now it’s my kids who have the ball all the time, and all of a sudden I hear myself say “Why don’t you go play outside? »

Your favorite story to read to them?

To my first son, a little book by Tom Sawyer. I may have read it two or three times, but above all, I continued it with my memories of the cartoon. On the second, I mainly told my memories of the soap opera Zorroremixed with my sauce.
