What to do in Paris with children? Five science activities for all ages

The Sparks of the Palace of Discovery, in Paris (15e)

Inaugurated in June 2021, the space Les Etincelles takes over the activities of the Palais de la Découverte during the renovation works of the science museum. Located a few steps from the Eiffel Tower and next to a beautiful playground, the fun and colorful building welcomes children from 6 years old (accompanied by an adult), who will find in the four mediation spaces, including a superb planetarium, enough to satisfy their curiosity for the world of science.

The great success of the place is due to the presentations and workshops delivered by scientists. These researchers or teachers are all experts in their field, very gifted in popularizing young audiences and not devoid of humour. The presentation “Journey to the time of the dinosaurs” – where we learn that birds are descended from theropods, including the famous tyrannosaurus! – totally transformed our 6-year-old’s view of the Parisian pigeon.

Between a live session at the planetarium on stars and galaxies (from 7 years old), experiments in physics on electrostatics (10 years old and over), a presentation on DNA (from 12 years old) or on perfumery raw materials (ages 14 and up) and a series of experiments on superconducting (ages 15 and up), everything is there to spend an enriching afternoon with your tribe.

From 6 years old. Children from 6 to 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult. During school terms, open Wednesday and Friday from 12:45 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. During school holidays, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Prices: 4 euros per workshop or presentation. Free with the La Cité-Le Palais Family Pass. Caroline-Aigle Garden, 186, rue Saint-Charles, Paris 15e. Such. : 01-56-43-20-20. Palais-decouverte.fr

The City of Science and Industry, in Paris (19ᵉ)

Activity at the City of Science and Industry.

At the Cité des sciences, in the heart of the Parc de la Villette, we know the Cité des enfants – two thematic routes for 2-7 year olds and 5-12 year olds –, the Lab de la Cité des Bébés (from birth to 23 months), the Library of Science and Industry, as well as exhibitions aimed at the little ones.

We know less that the place offers internships for families all year round. Over half a day, they allow you to learn about programming (January 15) and humanoid robotics (February 18), discover astronomy (February 25) or create your own perfume (March 4 ).

The Cité des sciences has also designed half-day to three-day science courses for young people aged 6 to 18 during school holidays. Already available for reservation, those for the winter holidays are suitable for all ages and tastes: “Apprentice builder” (6-8 years old); “Archaeologist” (6-8 years old); “Build your musical instrument” (9-12 years old); “Astrojunior diploma from Petite Ourse” (9-12 years old); “Robot cockroach” (9-13 years old); “Secret Service Spy” (9-12 and 11-15); “Create your video game” (10-14 years old); “Molecular Chemistry” (9-12 years old and 11-15 years old); “Build your joystick” (12-18 years old).
