Instagram carried out a vast survey of members of Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2010. The social network shares its results (very Instagrammable), and announces the trends that will govern the year 2024 for its young users.
Called Trend Talk, the study was conducted in collaboration with WGSN, the world’s leading trend forecasting company. Its authors interviewed individuals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, India and South Korea. They thus identified “ what you can expect to see all over the platform in 2024 “. A first observation: there should not be too many changes compared to 2023.
More sustainability in 2024
Regarding fashion, Generation Z will focus on more sustainable objectives in 2024. On the agenda, according to Instagram: local and less repeated purchases, the use of second-hand goods, and Do It Yourself (DIY). Young people will dress more comfortably, while focusing on the originality of their outfits. Notably, survey participants hope that the fashion for shaved eyebrows will remain a thing of the past.
Concerning their use of social networks, respondents assure us: they want to use them mainly to stay in touch with their loved ones, but also to keep informed of the latest trends. As a reminder, 51% of young American women prefer TikTok rather than Google to search for information.
“ Next year will be defined as the era of Gen Z growth », promises Instagram. In 2024, the focus will be on self-improvement and development, as well as health. Young people plan to do more sports, eat healthy, while focusing on their future careers. 1 in 3 people believe that the best way to get rich was to work for themselves.
The single generation?
Gen Z is a generation of singles, a trend that is expected to continue next year. 63% of respondents are currently, and their top relationship priority for 2024 is to “ strengthen their current relationships “. Notably, they consider chewing with an open mouth, a bad sense of humor and dirty nails to be prohibitive criteria in love.
Finally, members of Generation Z will continue their actions initiated in 2024 by “ informing oneself or others “, in ” voter ” and in ” using social media to raise awareness “.
