What will change for the independents

The Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne welcomed on Thursday the agreement reached on Tuesday by the deputies and senators meeting in a joint joint committee (CMP) around the bill in favor of independent professional activity.

This text should create a single status for some three million independents. The CMP reached an agreement on January 25, the way is clear for a definitive adoption of this bill, the minister was delighted during a press briefing, welcoming the constructive state of mind and the great convergence between the two chambers of Parliament on the essentials of the reform. There will be a reading of the conclusions of the CMP, which is worth a final vote, on February 7 in the National Assembly and on February 16 in the Senate, he specified.

The text has two key provisions, recalled Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. Thanks to the future dissociation of the professional and personal assets of the self-employed, all the elements that are not useful for the professional exercise can no longer be seized in the event of a hard blow.

In addition, the ability to apply for the self-employed worker’s allowance (ATI) has been extended to any self-employed worker who is going to cease his activity because it is not viable. To estimate whether the activity is not viable, we will see if there is a drop in income of at least 30%, explained the minister.

The text resulting from the CMP also plans to double the tax credit for the training of business leaders with fewer than ten employees, and aims to reduce by 30% the price of optional AT/MP insurance (work accidents /professional diseases). Another contribution of the exchanges between deputies and senators: the parliamentarians shortened, from seven to three days, the period of reflection to renounce the protection of the personal inheritance, provided that the act of renunciation is covered with an obligatory handwritten mention, specified Jean -Baptiste Lemoyne.
