WhatsApp recently rolled out a major update to its interface for iOS and Android users. This change introduced a more modern design with improvements to dark mode and navigation. However, still missing a key feature to perfect the platform: the ability to easily share photos and videos in high definition.

But it’s almost over, WhatsApp is currently rolling out a new feature that allows you to set HD quality as default option for sending Pictures And videos. Until now, the latter were automatically compressed, and although it is already possible to send them images in their original format, this process is long and tedious because it must be carried out photo by photo. Now this option can be applied automatically for all files.

Here’s how to enable the option to send photos in HD by default

WhatsApp’s latest update makes it easier to share high-quality media without having to send it as an attachment. With this new feature, photos and videos sent will be marked with an HD label in the lower left corner as before, which guarantees their superior visual quality.

Unlike the method which allows you to send photos by selecting them one by one in their original format, HD quality is not completely lossless. It still presents a significant improvement compared to the usual compression of WhatsApp. You can now check if you have access to this option :

  • Go to app settings
  • Open “Storage and Data”
  • Select “Media Download Quality”

It is important to note that HD files use more bandwidth and storage space, which could be a disadvantage for some users or in areas with low coverage. However, for those who prioritize clarity in photos and videos, this compromise is largely acceptable.
