Despite all the crises and scandals: WhatsApp is still the undisputed number 1 among messengers. If friends and family don’t go with you, every WhatsApp goodbye is doomed to fail from the start. After all, the messenger does not stand still and regularly integrates new features. An innovation has now been discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android (2.22.18.17) that should better protect WhatsApp users in the future.
WhatsApp receives new login consent
This is implemented via a new login consent within the app. It works like this: If someone tries to log in to your WhatsApp account with someone else’s smartphone, you will receive a message and must confirm the new login on the third-party device (Source: WABetainfo).
Previously, crooks could take over your WhatsApp account if they had your phone number and the 6-digit verification code. With the new login consent, WhatsApp is adding another hurdle to prevent identity theft. Many well-known apps such as PayPal use similar protection methods.
It is not yet known when WhatsApp will make the login approval official. The new function is currently only being tested in the beta version of the Android app.
