  • WhatsApp has long allowed two-step verification to protect your account from a takeover.
  • This will ask you for a PIN if your number is registered again.
  • In the future, Messenger will prominently point out this security feature.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular apps and can be found on most cell phones. Cyber criminals know this too, and use all sorts of tricks to take over third-party accounts and use them for criminal activities. Protection against this is provided by two-step verification.

With the additional verification, you set up a PIN that is requested from you when you register your number again with a new device on WhatsApp. While the feature is very useful, it’s disabled by default and you’ll have to dig through Messenger’s options to enable it. That is likely to change in the future.

According to fan blog WABetaInfo, which specializes in WhatsApp betas, WhatsApp is currently working on a new pop-up window that will recommend two-step verification in the app and give you a way to set it up quickly. Of course, you can close the window just as quickly if you don’t need this security feature.

Also interesting…

It is not yet known when WhatsApp will roll out the pop-up. Most recently, Messenger had surprised its fan base with a mysterious blue circle around the profile picture of selected contacts.
