WhatsApp has numerous functions to offer. But not every user knows all the features. Here is a selection of three useful aids.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messengers in the world. The app has numerous functions to offer for iOS and Android users, but not every user knows all of the features. Here users learn how to search for individual content, delete messages and format them.

Find specific content

If you call up the search function with the magnifying glass symbol, you can type in phrases to find certain messages from a contact more quickly. The feature is also suitable for searching for other content, including documents, audio files, photos, videos, GIFs or links. If you are looking for a certain type of media, you can also activate a filter here so that only clips that are found are displayed. You can also simply display all of the content of a type. For example, if you are looking for a specific link, you can call up all messages that contain them.

Delete messages quickly

Messages that may have been sent by mistake can still be deleted after they have been sent to a contact or a group. To do this, users must press and hold the sent message and select the “Delete for all” option. Multiple messages can also be deleted at the same time. According to WhatsApp, however, there are several restrictions. The user and the recipient (s) must have the latest version of the app installed and the message can only be removed up to around an hour after it has been sent.

WhatsApp warns, however, that recipients may have seen the message before it was deleted. In addition, images may already have been downloaded or can still be found in the photos for iOS users, even if the message has been removed. There is also no notification if the deletion fails. Users can only remove content for themselves via “Delete for me”, but this does not delete the contacts.

Formatting messages

Users can also easily format their messages. A text can be written in italics if an underscore (_example text_) is placed before and after it. If asterisks (* sample text *) are used, the whole is displayed in bold. In the case of tildes (~ sample text ~) the content is crossed out.
