If WhatsApp is constantly adding new features, messaging is also abandoning devices considered obsolete. Although Meta has been striving to provide the best possible compatibility for years, some models inevitably fall by the wayside and no longer receive updates.
Which smartphones will no longer be updated?
This is the case for 35 smartphones from Samsung, Motorola, Apple, Huawei, Lenovo, Sony and LG, many of which are seven years old or more. WhatsApp may still work on these devices, but without receiving updates, which can cause security issues and close access to many features. Meta recommends use on devices running Android 5.0 or iOS 12, at a minimum.
