  • WhatsApp will apparently expand its multi-device capability.
  • In the messenger’s Android beta, there are indications that you will soon be able to use WhatsApp on two cell phones at the same time.
  • Messenger could also be officially introduced to tablets.

Thanks to the multi-device function, it is now possible to use WhatsApp on up to 5 devices at the same time, but the messenger can still not be used on two cell phones at the same time. But that will apparently change soon.

As the blog WA Beta Info discovered, it is now possible in the beta version of Messenger 2.22.10.13 to register a second cell phone using the multi-device function. This is referred to as a “companion device”. You have to scan a QR code with the other cell phone to link your WhatsApp account. At the same time, the function should make it possible to install the messenger on an Android tablet, writes WA Beta Info.

Introduction may take a while

It is unclear when the function will move into the app. So far, the feature is included in the Android beta code, but according to WA Beta Info it has not yet been released for testers. So it’s still under development. In addition, new WhatsApp functions are usually tested in beta weeks or even months before they are introduced. We therefore do not expect a quick release.

WhatsApp is currently planning numerous changes in relation to groups. They should soon be able to be combined into so-called communities. In addition, new emojis have found their way into Messenger.
