WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a handy file sharing feature in its latest beta on Android. This update will allow users to send files up to 2 GB via Bluetooth, providing a fast and secure solution ideal in areas with low connectivity, similar to Apple’s AirDrop system.

According to information from the specialized site WABetaInfo, users will be able to activate this functionality in the “Share files” section by selecting close contacts. The file transfer will be initiated by a simple shaking of the phone, a way to avoid receiving files against your will.

This feature, which allows you to overcome the limitations of internet connectivity, is accompanied by end-to-end encryption to reinforce security. However, it will be limited to connected WhatsApp users and will depend on Bluetooth compatibility and smartphone performance.

Although WhatsApp is yet to officially confirm this update, screenshots from WABetaInfo suggest an imminent rollout.

This new feature arrives as Google Messages continues to establish itself with its RCS (Rich Communication Services) protocol, to put an end to SMS, by offering features inspired by the main messaging applications.

The update, available in beta version 2.24.2.20 of the Android application, is expected to arrive in the final version soon.
