WhatsApp: New function protects you from nasty surprises

Even as messenger top dog, WhatsApp is not resting on its laurels and is working on new functions. One of them takes on the status and provides a little more clarity in the future. Facebook is a role model.

WhatsApp has long been able to send more than just text messages. Messenger, which was taken over by Facebook in 2014, has developed into a real all-rounder over the years. Even shopping is now possible via WhatsApp. A function in which the parent company has invested heavily in recent times is the status update. After it was recently announced that WhatsApp users will soon be able to react to status updates with emojis, another innovation for the feature is now to follow.

WhatsApp gets link preview in status update

In the future should WhatsApp create a so-called “Rich Link Preview” in status updates, as soon as a link is shared (source: WABetainfo). Everyone who uses Facebook or other social media platforms knows them. If you insert a link into the post field, it will automatically become a Preview created including image, headline and first few words.

This kind of preview will soon be available in WhatsApp status. how that could look like show the experts from WABetainfo in an example image:

So far, only the pure link can be seen in the status, which on the one hand looks relatively boring, but on the other hand can also cause nasty surprises – After all, without a preview, you often don’t know directly what you are clicking on. WhatsApp is changing that with the new feature.

It doesn’t always have to be WhatsApp:

WhatsApp reactions already available

It is not yet known when exactly WhatsApp will make the new link preview in the status official. The feature is currently “in development”, it says. However, the new reactions in the chat are already available (not to be confused with the reactions in the status). With a total of six emojis, WhatsApp users can react directly to text, images or videos.
