WhatsApp, one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, is set to introduce a voice note transcription feature on Android. A highly anticipated update, especially since it appeared on the iOS version last year and has been awaited ever since.
Voice messages have become democratized, whether on WhatsApp, Messenger, or even Snapchat, offering a quick and practical alternative to writing long messages. However, sometimes recipients are not able to listen to these messages, for privacy reasons or simply because the environment is too noisy. This is where transcription comes into play.
According to the specialized blog TheSpAndroid, the arrival of this function on WhatsApp for Android is imminent. This is evidenced by the presence of specific code in beta version 2.24.7.7 of the application, suggesting that voice transcription is under development.
According to information discovered in the code, users will have to download approximately 150 MB of additional data to activate the feature. Once enabled, transcription will be taken care of by the device’s voice recognition system, ensuring an end-to-end encryption process for message privacy.
