Anyone who is concerned that other people might take a look at their own WhatsApp chats can set up an additional block.

If you put your smartphone aside and have not locked it, or pass it on to a friend to show them photos, you run the risk that other people may also have access to your own WhatsApp chats. Both iOS and Android users who want to protect their privacy additionally can set up a lock in the messenger.

The screen lock can be set up quickly here

To do this, iPhone users have to open the settings and navigate to the sub-items “Account”, “Privacy”, “Screen lock”. Here you can set that a Touch ID (fingerprint) or Face ID (face recognition) is required to unlock the app. Users then specify how long the app can be in standby mode before it becomes necessary to unlock it again. The time span ranges from immediately to an hour.

Android users can also activate a fingerprint lock in a similar way. This can be found under “More options”, “Settings”, “Account”, “Data protection”. A duration must also be specified here. Another password cannot be set in the app itself.
