WhatsApp already closed this potential vulnerability in autumn 2021. Apparently, the feature is still largely unknown, which is why the Messenger is now once again stirring the advertising drum. WhatsApp recommends self-deleting messages

The encryption of the cloud backups is not the only optional feature that WhatsApp advises you to activate. Messenger also recommends turning on the “self-deleting messages” function. With this, the messages in the selected chat are automatically deleted after a predetermined time.

You can also activate the feature directly for all chats that you start in Messenger using the “Default message duration” option.
