WhatsApp: telling your life with voice messages will become easier

An upcoming WhatsApp update will add many features for voice message lovers, including the ability to pause a recording.

There are as many people on the planet as there are voice messages sent on WhatsApp each day (7 billion). In a blog post published on March 30, the Meta group’s messaging application (Facebook) announces new features to come for this much loved and hated feature. The recording of a voice message will in particular be entitled to a real interface, whereas today you have to keep your finger pressed on a virtual button during the entire recording, without the possibility of knowing if it is working well.

Pauses during recording

WhatsApp voice recorder is going to become a real voice recorder, and it’s a great step forward. As with a dictaphone, you can initiate a vocal with a tap, pause it, then resume, listen to it again and then send it (or delete it). Today, WhatsApp works very stupidly, with only the possibility of deleting a recording or sending it. We can’t even be sure that it worked, it leaves first, we listen to it again afterwards.

Another welcome novelty, WhatsApp has taken pity on people (like the author of this article) who receive dozens of one-minute voices simultaneously. Now they can listen to them while doing something else, like going into another conversation.

Finally, in his blog post, WhatsApp highlights the possibility of accelerating the listening of a message at x1.5 or x2 speed, to get rid of his too talkative friends more easily. Unless we are mistaken, this is not new. Speed reading is from 2021.
