WhatsApp adds in its latest beta the ability to control whether or not you want to be able to send video messages. Currently, the option is enabled by default.
Every time WhatsApp updates (or almost), the application is enriched with a new feature. Recently, instant messaging offers to send short video messages to your contacts. They can last up to 60 seconds, more than enough to share something according to the developers. In the end, we can consider them as the video equivalent of voice messages. Operation is simple: in a conversation, hold finger on microphone icon and film yourself.
But maybe the feature doesn’t interest you at all. Maybe you even accidentally triggered a video message when you just wanted to record a voice message. Meta has obviously put itself in these people’s shoes since the latest WhatsApp beta adds the ability to disable video messages. If you are enrolled in the program to receive test updates, this is the version 2.23.18.21 that interests you on Android, and the 23.18.1.70 on iOS.
Disabling video messages in WhatsApp will soon be possible
By going to Settings > Chatsyou will see a new button under Chat Settings. The line is called Instant video messages, quite simply. Activate the option to be able to send video messages, deactivate it to make the operation impossible. Of course, even in the latter case, you can continue to receive and read video messages from your friends.

Some users have reported that by default the button is “off”. If you want use video messages, take a look at your settings as a precaution, they may be disabled without you wanting them to be. Remember that, as with every new feature available in beta on WhatsApp, it will take an indefinite time to roll out to all users’ devices. At the time of publishing this article, the beta program is completely full and no longer accepting newcomers.
