WhatsApp will allow you to search for your contacts by nickname, no more searching your address book

The latest WhatsApp beta includes a feature that will delight users with a very extensive contact book. After integrating the possibility of creating a nickname on the application, the latter adds a search bar which allows you to find the contact of your choice in a few seconds.

WhatsApp Communities

Earlier this year, WhatsApp began testing a brand new way to introduce yourself to your contacts: a nickname. In this way, users will be able to choose confidentiality, by hiding their telephone number with the name of their choice. If the functionality has not yet been deployed to the general public, WhatsApp has clearly not abandoned the idea and continues to develop the project.

As reported by the WABetaInfo site, the messaging service has just deployed a new beta build to its Android users registered in the program. Named 2.23.25.19, this build adds a very practical little option for all those whose contact list has been replaced by nicknames. An idea as simple as it is effective: a search bar.

WhatsApp will make sure you no longer get lost in your contacts

It’s one of those features that makes you wonder why it wasn’t there before. Indeed, the search bar works precisely as you might think: you just have to type a name, a telephone number or, therefore, a nickname, to find the desired contact. Suffice it to say that this is a huge time saver for anyone whose contact book is very extensive, who will no longer have to scroll endlessly to find the one they are looking for.

While WABetaInfo only mentions searching by nickname, the shared screenshot clearly shows that it is also possible to search by name and number. It therefore remains to be determined whether or not WhatsApp intends to reserve its functionality for users with nicknames. Since not everyone will necessarily take the plunge, it would seem strange not to include them in the search bar.
