The Meta teams are working hard on WhatsApp, which will benefit from a major overhaul on Android and iOS. The interface is intended to be more modern with better ergonomics and the messaging service would gain new features including Meta AI.
WhatsApp soon more modern and intuitive
WhatsApp specifies that this update “offers an impression of freshness and modernity” to messaging. This overhaul is based on three fundamentals – Fresh, Approachable and Simple – detailed in a blog post:

- Modern (Fresh): WhatsApp must be modern, fun and in line with the user’s habits.
- Accessible (Approachable): all users must feel comfortable with WhatsApp.
- Simple (Simple): this new design must reinforce simplicity, be scalable and last over time.
For Android users, the navigation bar with “Discussions”, “News” And “Calls” goes from top to bottom. Users of smartphones with large screens navigate more easily since it is closer to the thumb.
As we talked to you about previously in our columns, the redesign introduces three new categories to better separate conversations and facilitate search. We find “All” which brings together the discussions, “Unread” for messages that have not been opened or marked as unread and “Groups” dedicated to group exchanges.
Dark Mode Intensifies
For aesthetic changes, the green shade at the top of the screen has been replaced with a cleaner style with a new palette. Dark mode has also been redesigned for higher contrast and deeper tones.
If the changes are the same from one operating system to another, iOS is entitled to additional new features with a redesigned attachment layout to make it easier to send photos and videos. The background illustrations and icons are also more modern.
Finally, Meta AI is added to the WhatsApp search panel. On the other hand, we do not know when the chatbot will be launched since its presence is not even mentioned in the blog post.
