When Elden Ring meets Darkest Dungeon

Inspired by Berserk and the Cthullu mythos, the first Darkest Dungeon made a lasting impression with its dark atmosphere and punishing yet satisfying gameplay. Which gives it tons of commonalities with Elden Ring, so it’s no wonder we’ve seen artists inspired to create their own unofficial collaboration between the two licenses.

Darkest Dungeon MOD (Elden Ring)

This is unfortunately not a real mod, but it may well see the light of day in the future. The artist is Xuanhan Chenand for now, two very compelling images offer a glimpse of the uniquely compelling fusion it offers between the two games.

The first image gives an overview of the Elden Ring classes, transformed into Darkest Dungeon classes, with the Wanderer looking like a replacement for the Man-at-Arms, and the Blood Wolf looking like a replacement for the Crusader, at least if it is based on his posture and his weapon. The Samurai and the Knight of Caria do not really have an equivalent in Darkest Dungeon. At the enemy level, there is only one at the moment, but it is certainly one of the most iconic, since it is the Sentinel of the tree, a mini-boss that takes care of teach players humility a second time upon exiting the tutorial.

We can then discover all this little world in the heat of the moment, with a fight that is highly likely to send our two Shineless back to the nearest Vanished Grace Point. Gameplay-wise, you’d expect the Tree Sentinel to fight much like the Hog Knight of the Dens, with a few more surprises, like spell deflecting.

Elden Ring

The images above are for Darkest Dungeon first of the name specifically. Darkest Dungeon 2 is currently in early access, and the graphical evolution is notable. The characters are much more detailed and animated, which is fun to watch, especially since the atmosphere has been preserved. But there is no doubt that it will also make modding projects much more difficult.

For its part, Elden Ring is already entitled to a lot of mods, for example an easy mode and a hard mode. But he is also entitled to completely crazy mods, with Thomas the train, or even Shrek.
