When Google sells a Pixel, Samsung sells sixty Galaxy smartphones

No one really knew the sales figures for “Made by Google” smartphones. A company specializing in the mobile phone market has unveiled the number of Pixel devices since the birth of this product line, and the least we can say is that it is not glorious.

Smartphone manufacturers don’t like to reveal their sales figures too much, except when they are excellent and, like Apple, sales are soaring. The company International Data Corporation has however revealed edifying figures concerning the volume of sales of Google-branded smartphones. This information did not escape Vlad Savov, a Bloomberg journalist, who shared his find on social networks.

According to IDC, since 2016, when the Menlo Park firm decided to manufacture its own smartphones, Google would have sold only 27.6 million phones laptops. The statistic takes on its full flavor when compared to the 272 million units sold by Samsung… in 2021. In theory, therefore, if the company continues to sell such a low volume of smartphones, it would take Google sixty years to sell the same number of devices as the world’s largest manufacturer in a year.

At this rate, it will take sixty years for Google to sell as many smartphones as Samsung

Many Internet users rightly observe that the comparison is unfair. Google and Samsung do not play in the same court. While Samsung offers a dozen new smartphones each year, Google has only made about fifteen of its own, if we include the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The two tech giants differ as much in their product placement as they do in their pricing. When Google wants to be high-end and offers expensive products under the pretext of offering the original Android experience, Samsung offers a variety of products ranging from very inexpensive smartphones to very high-end devices and smartphones from exception like the Galaxy Z Flip 4, for example.

Under these conditions, we understand that Google has a very large room for improvement. He is not even not sure that the company really wants to compete with Samsung. Moreover, according to Me Savov, Google considers the Korean mastodon as a guarantee of being able to offer a wide variety of Android phones on American territory. Indeed, Chinese manufacturers are increasingly frowned upon, LG and Sony have abandoned the mobile market, and Apple is Apple. That said, all hopes are still allowed for Google. It must present its new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, and we are also expecting its new range of accessories which should make it possible to homogenize the brand’s universe a little.
