When is season 2 of the fantasy series Ronya released on Netflix?

Ronya daughter of a bandit is very popular on Netflix. Besides, this is not the end of the heroine’s adventures: there will be a season 2.

When Netflix releases a fantasy series, like The Witcher, there is generally a big emphasis. But Ronya, daughter of a bandit was released discreetly on March 28, 2024. However, this Swedish series created a surprise by being a hit: it is still very stable today in the top 10 of the platform.

Indeed, the series team did not need a budget equivalent to current major productions to show inventiveness, to create a pleasant adventure, with epic overtones. Fantasy, moreover, is mainly based on the myths and legends of Sweden. As for photography, it is based on the beauty of Swedish forests and landscapes: a sublime change of scenery guaranteed.

Season 2 of Ronya has already been ordered

In reality, the Swedish series Ronya was designed from the start to be in two parts, to a total of 12 episodes. Netflix has already ordered the sequel, season 2 has been filmed. This means that officially, it is certain that episode 6 is not the last: six more episodes will soon arrive on the platform.

On the other hand, Netflix has not given any indication on the release date of season 2. But generally, when a series is already filmed and divided into two parts, they are closer together than usual. We will therefore probably not have to wait until 2025 for the rest.

Ronya is an adaptation

It was not difficult to anticipate a sequel to Ronya : the Swedish series is an adaptation of the novel Ronya, daughter of a bandit by Astrid Lindgren, published in 1981. This is the third adaptation of this cult work in the country (there was a film, in 1984, then a series animated by Ghibli in 2014).

In fact, the first season of the Netflix series does not yet cover all of Astrid Lindgren’s book.
