When it “bricks” at AMD, it overloads at NVIDIA

A CPU occupancy issue that is limited to the latest GeForce drivers for graphics cards NVIDIA, the 531.18.

AMD has just confirmed that its latest drivers for Radeon cards can “brick” your Windows, now those from NVIDIA cause another kind of problem, fortunately less harmful, but still…

Around 15% CPU load

The information was notably mentioned by Tom Warren, journalist for the site The Verge, and several Reddit users also echoed it. It does happen that the 531.18 drivers are problematic.

Tom Warren explains that when leaving a game, it is quite possible that the processor load does not fall as it should. On the contrary, it is stuck around 10 to 15% and can, in some cases, even be stuck a little higher.

The problem is only found on the 531.18 drivers and Tom Warren specifies that a possible solution is obviously the return to an older version, whichever one does the trick.

Go back to 528.49?

Tom Warren specifies however that it is also possible to simply disconnect from Windows and then reconnect: the bug should have disappeared. However, it is important to know that NVIDIA does not make the ear source.

On its forums, the American company first acknowledged said bug and if it has not yet indicated anything like it, we can assume that a hotfix will be deployed quickly to correct the problem. It’s hard to imagine NVIDIA waiting for the publication of a new version of the GeForce drivers.

NVIDIA does not comment on what Tom Warren offers. Be aware, however, that to identify the bug, simply open the task manager and consult the processes tab. You should find an abnormal occupation of your processor by the NVIDIA Container.

For our part, while waiting for a hotfix from NVIDIA, we are like Tom Warren and advise you to remove the 531.18 drivers with the Display Driver Uninstaller tool then to (re)put the “old” 528.49 WHQL.
