After purchasing the software online from the Microsoft Store, Wesley Pyburn, a programmer and content creator, finds, after several attempts, that the Windows activation key does not work. He therefore contacted Microsoft customer service in South Africa, his country of residence.

At first, the technician also fails to help him. The support contacts him again the next day, and asks to take control remotely with the Windows Quick Assist program. The situation then turns absurd. Wesley says, “Today my issue was escalated to the next level of support. Official Microsoft Support (not a scam) connected with Quick Assist and ran a command to activate Windows… GU, IT’S A CRACK. I DO NOT LIE […] He is literally easier to crack Windows than to use the paid version “.
Technician used hack tool to activate customer license
If the technique used by the after-sales technician is known to users of pirated software, cracks and other warez, it is not, however, officially authorized by Microsoft, even if it is a question of solving the pressing problem of a customer “in trouble”. Installing pirated software to bypass copy protection exposes users to scripts and other malware.
In the case of Me Pyburn, the after-sales technician went to Massgrave, a site hosting versions of Windows activation scripts commonly used by creators of illegal copies. Contacted by Bleeping Computer, Microsoft says it is investigating this incident.“We will take the necessary steps to ensure that proper customer support procedures are followed for our products and services” .
