The President of the National Assembly spoke in the hemicycle this Wednesday to urge ministers to respond clearly to the questions asked by parliamentarians. This followed an exchange between Nathalie Serre, LR MP, and Patricia Mirallès, Secretary of State in charge of Veterans Affairs.

Yaël Braun-Pivet bangs his fist on the table. This Wednesday, the President of the National Assembly did not hesitate to reframe ministers who provide too vague answers to the questions asked by parliamentarians. “Madam Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, I thank you for indicating to each minister that they should really answer the questions put to them by Parliament. I remind you that the government is responsible to Parliament”, she said, provoking a round of applause from the ranks of the opposition, in a rather sparse Assembly.

“I have no more to say.”

This reframing follows an exchange between MP Nathalie Serre and the Minister in charge of Veterans and Memory, Patricia Mirallès. The elected LR questioned information reporting an “authorization granted for the installation of a Saudi village on the site of Invalid from May 10, 2024 for a period of four months.” And to request “clarifications” from the minister. “Could you tell me if the office of the President of the Republic and your ministry have given their agreement? If so, could you share with us the details of this facility?” she asked.

To which Patricia Mirallès responded in a rather vague manner. “These are infirmations that we may have had. Nothing has been done. I can understand your questions, but I will not answer on things that have not been done, nor signed, without any agreement,” he said. she declared, clearly uncomfortable. “I have no more to say,” she added in conclusion. She spoke in place of the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, who was absent.

Although coming from the ranks of the majority, Yaël Braun-Pivet therefore did not hesitate to reprimand the government, in an unusual way, to the greatest satisfaction of the oppositions. At the LCP microphone, Philippe Brun, socialist deputy for Eure, said he was “very proud” of this call to order. “The government has the duty to answer the questions of the deputies, which are in fact the questions of the French people,” he added. Same story for Nathalie Serre, “very happy” that the boss of the lower house “reminds the government of its duty to respond”.
