Two YouTubers known for their urban explorations have discovered the locality where the old Autolib’ are gathered. Collected… or simply abandoned?

Did you think they were on their way to recycling or resale? They are actually rotting in a field. At least that’s what the images released by Youtubers Gabriel & Corentin suggest. Specialized, among other things, in urban exploration (Urbex), the two acolytes managed to enter the wasteland where the Autolib’ are gathered, these small electric carts offered in self-service in Paris and its close region between 2011 and 2018 .

Hide this failure that cannot be seen…

In all, several hundred Autolib’ are aligned on a vast site located in the Loir-et-Cher. Officially, these cars are supposed to be recycled or repaired to be resold (part of the initial fleet of 4,000 vehicles found buyers)… but in this case they seem mostly abandoned. Most of the models seen in the short video shared by the two videographers indeed look good for scrap.

As the specialized media reminds us Insideevs, the deployment of Autolib’ was initially intended to allow Parisians to travel in and around Paris, through a theoretically interesting car-sharing service. In 2018, after seven years of a (very) expensive experiment that quickly turned into a fiasco, the Paris City Hall decided to end the project by withdrawing its Autolibs from circulation. They languish today out of sight (the long format video of Gabriel & Corentin seems to have been the subject of a request for deletion). An economic, political… and a priori ecological disaster.
