All that remains is to choose the right broker to start on the stock market. It is of course possible to open a securities account in your network bank, but the rates are not advantageous. The average cost of an order of 5,000 euros thus amounts to an average of 24 euros in network banks, or 0.48%, compared to 7.10 euros (0.14%) with an online broker. ‘after the AMF. In addition, networks generally charge custody fees, that is to say annual fees based on the number of lines held, while digital players do not provide for them.

It is therefore better to open an account in your online bank (BoursoBank, Fortuneo, Hello Bank!), or with a specialized broker (Bourse Direct, Degiro, EasyBourse, eToro, Saxo Banque, etc.). Most have prices specifically designed for beginner investors. It is difficult, however, to compare prices, because some intermediaries provide a flat rate (1.90 euros per order, for example), while others charge variable commissions (0.20% per order).

“You need to think about the frequency of your orders as well as the amount envisaged per transaction in order to choose your broker”, indicates Renaud Bellivier de Prin, head of the Stock Market and Assets department at Fortuneo. Customers placing very large orders, from 5,000 euros to 10,000 euros, benefit from attractive rates: 0.20% at Hello Bank!, 0.12% at BoursoBank, 0.10% at Fortuneo and even 0.09%. at Bourse Direct.

Certain investments without brokerage fees

However, beginner investors generally place orders of small amounts in order to build a diversified portfolio across ten lines, even if they have a limited budget. It is therefore recommended to check the expected prices over a few hundred euros.

An order on Euronext up to 500 euros costs 0.99 euros at Bourse Direct, 1.75 euros at Hello Bank! (Start offer), 1.99 euros at BoursoBank (Découverte), or 0.35% at Fortuneo (Starter). “We also offer one free order per month of less than 500 euros to our beginner clients, this allows them to familiarize themselves with how the market works”, details Renaud Bellivier de Prin at Fortuneo, whose prices were revised in March. For its part, EasyBourse offers one stock market order per month for the first year to its clients between 18 and 30 years old, then charges 2 euros per order up to 800 euros.
