Which homemade face exfoliant for my skin? Our recipes

Creating your own facial scrub is not complicated, but you still have to know which recipe to use! Let’s take stock of this smart treatment with our recipe ideas for all skin types.

Why is it important to exfoliate the skin on your face?

The exfoliation is an essential step in the beauty ritual because the skin of the face, like that of the body for that matter, needs to be rid of dead cells regularly to be able to display a beautiful radiance and to renew itself correctly. By exfoliating your face, we will both remove these famous dead cells present on the surface of the skin which affect the radiance of the complexion, but also refine the skin texture so that it is smoother, purify the face by unclogging pores to eliminate (and avoid) blackheads, and stimulate cell regeneration (and blood microcirculation in stride) to simply have beautiful skin.
Another obvious but ultimately less well-known advantage of the exfoliation, it improves the effectiveness of moisturizing and treating care products which are subsequently applied because thus devoid of dead skin which forms a barrier to active ingredients, the skin is more receptive to care.
In short, you will understand, there is no question of doing without this treatment as essential as face masks, whatever your skin type.

It is generally advisable to do a face scrub once a week. But the frequency of application of this exfoliating treatment also depends on your skin type. If with dry or sensitive skin, a gentle exfoliation once a week remains the ideal rhythm, it is possible to do up to two exfoliation per week when you have oily skin to clean it well and prevent blackheads.

Why choose a homemade face scrub?

While buying a ready-made treatment in the store is certainly practical, renewing your purchase regularly can be quite expensive when you do not derogate from the rule of doing a weekly face scrub to display beautiful skin. Fortunately, the exfoliating products offered by our favorite beauty brands aren’t the only ones that can dislodge impurities from our pores and remove dead skin. It is indeed possible to prepare a scrub yourself with a few inexpensive natural ingredients. The result is a natural product devoid of controversial substances, but above all a cheap treatment to be prepared on demand so as not to spend money on scrubs.
And these are not the only advantages of these homemade exfoliators: they are also particularly smart care because we can easily adapt their recipe to the needs of our skin type (by selecting the perfect ingredients to treat our skin concerns and even by swapping one ingredient of the recipe for another if necessary!), but also to the temporary needs of the epidermis according to the seasons (for example by making the treatment more nutritious in winter, by adding just a spoon of vegetable oil to the recipe nourishing that suits her skin type).

A spoon of soothing sweet almond oil for sensitive skin, and one of argan, olive or coconut oil for drier than fragile skin, and voila!

Our nourishing face scrub recipe

Dry skin in search of nutrition should not skip exfoliation either, but it is important to do it using a product that will also nourish the epidermis so as not to dry it out even more. Sugar (just as effective as salt for clear skin but naturally nourishing) is a dream asset to purify your face while making your skin more comfortable. Preferably choose it with fine grains to dislodge impurities very delicately. Associated with the nutritive and regenerating virtues of honey, it will work miracles on your dry skin.

In a bowl, put the equivalent of two tablespoons of honey then add the same amount of powdered sugar and mix to obtain a scrubbing paste. Make it a little more flexible or liquid – and therefore easier to work – by adding a tablespoon of moisturizing vegetable oil (olive, argan, coconut… you choose your favorite). Then apply the mixture to your skin then gently massage the sweet paste all over your face, not to mention the lips which can also benefit from its effectiveness in regaining a supple and soft mouth. Rinse off with plenty of lukewarm water and don’t forget to moisturize your skin afterwards.

Our purifying face scrub recipe

If you have oily skin or acne, it’s important to rid your skin of excess oil and unclog your pores to prevent pimples and blackheads. But don’t forget that oily and acne-prone skin also needs softness. To erase them without aggressiveness, the soft beans of the coffee grounds are ideal. Especially when combined with the benefits of honey which naturally reveals antiseptic and regenerating properties perfect for healing pimples and soothing the skin.

Incorporate a tablespoon of fresh coffee grounds in the equivalent of a tablespoon of honey to create an effective paste but which will remain tender with the skin. If you have acne, you can also add two drops of tea tree essential oil with purifying properties to strengthen its cleansing action, or even a little lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your skin by making small circular massages then rinse well with lukewarm water.

Our tip: don’t hesitate to combine this scrub with an egg white mask to fight blackheads even more effectively.

Our facial exfoliant recipe for sensitive skin

Natural scrubs often rely on the abrasiveness of hard grains (derived from sugar or salt) to effectively erase the epidermis, but in the case of fragile and reactive skin, the hardness of these ingredients can be slightly irritating. To gently exfoliate your face, almond powder is a very good alternative.

For example, mix the equivalent of a tablespoon of almond powder with the same amount of moisturizing and soothing aloe vera gel (available for less than 10 € on amazon), and a tablespoon of nourishing vegetable oil in a bowl. Sweet almond, apricot and jojoba oils are perfect to complete this treatment. Once the mixture is done, all that remains is to massage it on the face to make the skin clear.

How to apply your homemade scrub on your face?

Whatever recipe you have fallen for, your natural scrub must be applied to damp skin with appropriate gestures. Namely, by performing gentle and circular massages with your fingertips in order to take off dead skin but without irritating your skin. This is very important for your home care to be effective.
