which model to choose? (before it’s out of stock)

Apple’s new smartphone comes in four different models. Between the mini, the Pro, the Max or the classic, which one to choose? Follow the guide.

Want to change your smartphone and you swear by Apple? Want to quit Android to switch to the dark side of the apple? If you’re looking for the very latest, this is the iPhone 13 for you. Apple’s latest smartphone has been on the market since the end of September. But before you crack, you still have to know which one to choose. Because the iPhone 13 comes in four different versions: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. They are all currently available but Bloomberg recently raised concerns about the state of stocks for Christmas. It is therefore not necessary to delay too long to make up your mind.

Depending on the model, size and / or wattage and storage may vary. Faced with these four options, all 5G compatible, which is the one that suits you the most? To find out, you have to ask yourself the right questions and study closely what your daily practices are, a smartphone in your hand. So, which one are you going to fall for ?!

Format and weight above all

Are you looking for lightness and an ultra-compact format without sacrificing quality? THE’iPhone 13 mini Stretching out its arms to you, especially since it has exactly the same characteristics as the classic iPhone 13, both in terms of power and photo capabilities. The size of its screen? 5.4 inch. And only 140 grams in the pocket.

If, on the contrary, you are looking for a large screen, iPhone Pro Max is then the one you need with its XXL format and its 6.7-inch screen (against 6.1 for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro). But beware, who says large size also means greater weight: 238 grams on the scale.

What choice for photography enthusiasts

Apple makes notable updates to its camera hardware and software every year. All four iPhone 13 models can create great photos, but there are some major differences between the Standard and Pro models. Note, however, that the entire range is now equipped with the same stabilization technology by moving the entire sensor, limited until then to the iPhone 12 Pro. But both Pro models are better off when it comes to photo capabilities.

The major difference on the 13 Pro and Pro Max, which share the same cameras, is the 12 MP main lens with an f / 1.5 aperture, (compared to 1.6 for standard models) which is also capable to do macro photography. Two other sensors complete the device: a 12MP telephoto lens with an f / 2.8 aperture and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a large f / 1.8 aperture for better low-light performance. Finally, both Pro models support macro mode, 3x optical zoom, and ProRaw images, which the non-Pro models don’t.

What choice to make? If you want to photograph this ladybug in a field up close or rework your night shots on Lightroom, look to the iPhone 13 Pro (or Pro Max). On the other hand, if you usually leave the auto mode on and just want “good photos” in all circumstances, the standard version of the iPhone 13 is good enough.

Maximum storage

With the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple offers up to 1TB of storage! A huge capacity that supports new smartphone functions, such as the possibility of filming in very high resolution (4K, 30 frames per second) for professional quality videos, which can be easily exploited for cinema or Netflix series by example. But that only concerns a handful of people.

Nevertheless, some people like to store a lot of photos, music files or even videos on their phone. Or they use applications that take up a lot of space. This is why the Pro version of the iPhone 13, in classic or Max size, can go up to 1 TB of storage. In the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini version, we can only go up to 512 GB, but it is already quite sufficient in normal use. To make the right choice, look at the space occupied on your current phone to decide how much capacity is needed. If you primarily use streaming services (music and video), you shouldn’t need more than 256GB.

The question of autonomy

All iPhone 13 models have higher capacity batteries this year. In classic moderate use, there is no need to worry about the phone holding out until the evening without difficulty. Apple has not only increased the capacity of the batteries but above all to continue working on the software part of the question so that the iPhone is as greedy as possible depending on the uses. Result: between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 13, we gained about 1 hour 30 minutes of battery life, which is quite enormous.

In our tests, the iPhone 13 mini – which therefore has the smallest battery – lasted 12 hours and 20 minutes in typical varied use. That’s almost 2 hours longer than the iPhone 12 mini. Really not negligible. For the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, which have the same battery, count around 15-16 hours of battery life (it is a little better in Pro). And for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, it can last about 18 hours before surrendering. Largely sufficient therefore.

VERDICT

So which iPhone 13 to choose? The decision is obviously left to you, but most people will be very happy with the iPhone 13. It offers a good balance of power, features and battery life for a price that starts at 909 euros. This balanced approach makes the iPhone 13 our winner of this year’s lineup.

Video game enthusiasts and video professionals will likely want to opt for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The latter has a large ProMotion screen for gaming, a 3x zoom camera, support for macro photography and ProRes video, and almost endless battery life. But, sold from 1259 euros, you still have to be able to afford it.
