Which smartphones are compatible with Android 13?

Android 13 will arrive in the summer of 2022. We already know a few models compatible with the new version of the operating system, thanks to the beta.

The release of Android 13 is expected in the summer of 2022. Google is therefore entering the final stretch of the development of the operating system, with the publication of beta 3 of the OS on June 8, 2022. This is also the penultimate before the final release of Android 13. There will still be one more step, expected in July.

Today, Android 13 is in a fairly stable beta version, with a number of hard-wired components — developers will be able to build on this to prepare for the transition to this new branch, without fear of changes substantial in the behavior of APIs, in particular.

With the upcoming arrival of Android 13, whose unofficial code name is Tiramisu, smartphone manufacturers will have to prepare like every year for a new shift in the Android ecosystem (even if on the surface, Android 13 does not seem to bring very big novelties). And, already, some manufacturers are testing Android 13.

Install Android 13 beta with caution

It is possible, if you wish, to upgrade to Android 13 in advance. However, you have to keep in mind that this is not an OS that has gone through all the steps allowing it to be available on public smartphones. To put it another way, it’s a version that is mainly aimed at dev.

In short, features may be missing, or may not work as they should. In addition, access to preliminary versions of Android 13 is subject to having a compatible smartphone. However, for the moment, only a handful of terminals are eligible. This list is known and also gives a first indication of the smartphones that will be entitled to Android 13.

Smartphones compatible with Android 13

We can expect that all smartphones marketed in 2022 will be entitled to the Android 13 update. The models delivered at the end of the year should also directly embark this new branch, which will have the merit of settling the question — but for these devices, there will be the question of migration to Android 14 in 2023.

For models released before 2022, there is less certainty: manufacturers do not all have the same approach when it comes to updating Android. There are good students, who have a voluntary deployment schedule and stick to it. And there are builders who move more slowly. In general, the longer a mobile was released, the less likely it is to have Android 13.
